On May 11 of 2026 at the Woodside Branch of Oakville Public Library, Unboxed hosted their first ever workshop, ‘How to Think Like a Debater’!
The Unboxed Leaders Roseanna and Chloe worked with 4 students in a two-hour British Parliamentary Debate presentation, packed with five collaborative activities.
They worked on critical thinking exercises under pressure, building strong arguments, and effectively showing why arguments are important. Here are some of the debate topics that students honed their skills in:
- Comparative weighing and weighing metrics
- Impact analysis
- Tipping point analysis
- Strategic framing and modeling
- Building strong arguments
- Types of refutation and how to use them
At the end, our students gave their first ever debate speeches, and received an Unboxed Certificate of Completion!
We are continuously amazed at students’ willingness to learn outside of the classroom – and our workshops aim to do just that – encourage like-minded, curious students to share ideas outside of school hours, and learn new things!
We look forward to the next workshop!
